Parmita Katkar again

Parmita Katkar is out on a limb and loving every moment of it. Chosen to replace Meghna Naidu in Husn-love and betrayal, the beauty queen-turned-actress insists her sex appeal lies all below the belt.

Winner of the Miss India Asia Pacific title for the year 2003, Katkar made her big screen debut gyrating alongside Fardeen Khan in the title song of Janasheen. But she's hoping that Husn will give her a leg up in Bollywood.

According to the Bangalore girl she has a distinct advantage over other newcomers who are also willing to strip for success. "In Husn I have done a number of very bold scenes. Since I was adjudged as having the 'Sexiest Legs in Mumbai', I think I have an asset that no actress with her latkas, jhatkas and skimpy tops can match!" she exults.

Katkar's shapely curves have stood her in good stead so far - besides grabbing the Miss Body Beautiful prize in 2002, she also finished among the top four finalists in the AXN Hot & Wild contest. Now that she's trying her luck in cinema, this 24-year-old has absolutely no regrets about doing a role originally meant for voluptuous Naidu.

"Look, the whole concept has changed. When the earlier project failed to take off, director Imtiaz Khan reconceptalised everything with a new set of cast and crew. The question of 'replacing' Meghna therefore doesn't arise. This is an altogether different film that we are now making," she claims.

Katkar is happy taking the bare-dare route to stardom and admits as much. According to her: "I am doing an item number called Kuwan Maan Doob Jaayenge in Madhur Bhandarkar's Page 3. Although I have modelled with Shahrukh Khan in a Videocon commercial and am not completely unknown to audiences, I am hoping to expand my fan following once Husn and Page 3 release. Certainly I have exposed more in these films than I ever did while modelling."

Before the film underwent radical changes, Naidu's character in Husn was supposed to transform from a middle-class woman married to Gulshan Grover into a hi-society girl who creates havoc in Meera Vasudevan and Shawar Ali's married life.

Although Katkar is reluctant to reveal too much about the new-look Husn, she does drop a few tantalising hints. "I play a very glamorous and romantic girl. The film stars two pairs - Rahul Dev and me are one of them. Yuvaraaj Parashar and Nethra (Raghuraman) are the other," she says.
