Carol Gracias - The Probe

Probe wardrobe malfunction: Mumbai Court
Saturday, June 17, 2006 (Mumbai):

A Mumbai court has ordered police to probe into the wardrobe malfunction incidents involving popular models Carol Gracias and Gauhar Khan during Lakme fashion week in March-April this year.

Hearing a complaint filed a social activist, magistrate M H Belose on Friday asked Marine Drive police in south Mumbai to investigate the matter and submit a report by August 17.

Complainant Prakash Rajdev alleged that the police had failed to thoroughly investigate the case and given a clean chit to the offenders.

He alleged that the incidents were intentional and the models had indulged in nudity and obscenity, which constituted offences under IPC.

The complainant's lawyer J D Ved said police has been asked to investigate under section 156(3) of CrPC and submit a report within two months.

While walking down the ramp, models Carol Gracias and Gauhar Khan experienced wardrobe malfunction much to the embarrassment of the audience and organisers. There was also uproar over the incident in Maharashtra legislative assembly. (PTI)

Millions go hungry, illiteracy & social injustice is rampant all over & someone actually asks for a probe intoa a wardrobe malfunction?? :S

Monikangana Dutta - Indian Supermodel

Fashion’s newest IT girl Monikangana Dutta reveals the underbelly of the glamour trade

It’s easy to understand why Monikangana Dutta is the current darling of the fashion world — glowingly dusky, Amazonianly leggy, with a ball-busting attitude to match.

“It’s sad to see that half the Indian designers don’t know what they’re doing — some make couture clothes for prĂȘt shows and prĂȘt clothes for couture shows,” states 23-year-old Moni, whose career kick-started with the Paris Fashion Week in 2004. “C’mon, how can you do that? That’s quite crazy,” she laughs.

With sex and drugs being the hottest flavour of the news, ask her how debauched the fashion world is, and she reveals, “This industry is all about sex and drugs! Though I don’t know why people make such a big deal about sex. It’s a basic — you need it. As for drugs, if you want to do it, don’t do it publicly.”

What about the prevalence of ‘coke daddies’ — sleazy older men who ply young models with drugs in return for sexual favours? “Of course coke daddies exist! I’ve seen people doing it. Everyone is into something or the other in the fashion world.”

Assam born, now Mumbai based, Moni gets candid on the other ‘dark side’ of the modelling trade. “People have dropped me from TV commercials at the last minute because they got more fair-skinned girls. Over here, people are still not ready to accept that dusky skin can launch a brand,” she exclaims.

That’s not to say that internationally, Moni has not come across this discrimination. “In France, when I went to meet Yohji Yamamoto, I was shocked. He said, ‘I really like you, I like your face, but I can’t use you for my show’. And I was like, why? He said because he had never used an Indian girl before — that he wasn’t comfortable with it. I was so shattered on hearing that.”

With Bollywood not on her agenda (she in fact walked out of an art film that had Kamal Sidhu and Sandhya Mridul in it because of “certain kissing/nudity scenes”), what’s Moni’s big dream ahead? “I think the YSL campaign is every model’s dream,” she winds up.

Sheetal Malhar - The Butterfly Tattoo

Sheetal Malhar
Sheetal Malhar

What's your style quotient all about ?
For me comfort is basic, nothing comes before that. I feel that one should dress according to one's personality and also the climate.

Your perfect eveningwear and casual statement ?
For a glam evening, it'll be a nice little stylish dress. Track pants and jeans make up my casual wear for a relaxed and chilled look.

Your recommended style for hair?
I like long hair, you can experiment with it and sport a lot of different styles. In hair colours, I like dull shades like browns and detest the shiny golden shades.

Five accessories that you can't do without?
For me there are only two accessories that I can't do without, my bags and shoes. They're both absolute musts for me.

Shoes - Three must-haves in your collection?
Tennis shoes, chappals and sandals, all of them are very comfortable and they look stylish too.

How much of peek-a-boo is right for you?
There is nothing wrong in showing skin but if a person goes over the top and does it deliberately then it looks bad.

Your biggest fashion disaster?
Never ever, I always take care as to what I'm wearing and how I'm looking.

Your fashion no-no?
I stay away from heavy jewellery and ornate, in-your-face clothes.

Your style icon - who and why?
Gwen Stefani, I find her very stylish and hot.

Your favourite Indian fashion designer?
There are two, Rohit Bal and Tarun Tahiliani. They're both so original and immensely wearable.

Viveka Babajee - The Kamasutra Girl

Model Viveka Babajee says that people thought she would happily sport a bikini.

How much did the Kamasutra ad contribute to your popularity?

I can't deny that the ad was the reason of my being in India. People noticed me for the commercial. But it had its share of difficulties too.

People thought that I would happily sport a bikini from then on. It took me nearly one to one-and-a-half years to assert myself.

Today of course people know me as Viveka Babajee who had once done the Kamasutra ad.

You are born and brought up in Mauritius. Did that help in your modelling career in any way?

Mauritius is inhabited by down-to-earth people. Modelling, on the other hand, is a world of glamour and glitz. One tends to lose oneself here. But thanks to my roots and upbringing, I always remembered who I was and where I came from.

What made you settle down in Mumbai?

For the simple reason that Mumbai is in many ways similar to Mauritus. It is important for a person to find emotional balance in a place. Also, the city is the modelling hub and all work happens here.

Is it necessary to participate in a contest to be a successful model?

Contests help you go further in your career. You get to meet people you might never otherwise meet. Also, it is a huge exposure in terms of opening up avenues.

Previously, models used to freelance. They took their bio-datas to the different production houses or companies. But now, there are agencies to take care of your business. Once you take part in such contests, the agencies can spot you and approach you.

But what is keeping the Indian models from making it big in the international market?

I guess we are soft on the selection of models. I don't mean to be nasty or anything, but I guess care needs to be taken in this arena.

For catwalk, you need a specific height, looks and personality. International ramp demands a model to be 5'11. Then again, you have models who have the basic requirements but they are not yet ready to go international.

Sometimes they are pushed much before they are ready. Grooming is very important in modelling. Often political involvements act as a deterrant. You will see that after a time, the same persons who had once egged you on, are eager to pull you back.

Do you see anyone making it internationally in future?

We have a shortage of good models. Just having a beautiful face and body are not enough. You need proper grooming. When I had entered the industry, there was no trainer.

I learnt from observing others and then cultivating a style of my own. I think Deepika Padukone and Jesse Randhawa ave what it takes to go international.

Why do you think India took so long to enter the international fashion market ?

That is because we lacked a platform. With the fashion week happening for the seventh year in a row, the designers are getting a proper platform to showcase their creations.

Also, the designers benefit from the international buyers. Another reason is that the craze for Indian things have suddenly increased over the last couple of years.

You had signed a couple of films. But they never happened. Why?

I did act in Yeh Kaisi Mohabbat. Unfortunately, the movie did not run because the actors probably did not do wonders for the film.

As for me, I had learnt whatever I had to about the film industry. I never wanted to fall into a particular category. And nothing has been offered to me so far. For me age is not a problem, though here that is the best reason to push you back.

Pia Trivedi

Pia Trivedi Model and Channel V VJ.
pia pia o piya piya , piya piya o piya :|

Pia Trivedi is a photographer's delight. She seems as comfortable in front of the camera as anyone I have ever seen. She doesn't complain and allows herself to be putty in the hand of the photographer. And this talent has not gone unspotted. Pia is Channel [V]'s hot new VJ now.

She is a new face to anyone who doesn't own a copy of the Kingfisher Swimsuit Calendar. Having shot to fame in 2003 at the Lakme India Fashion Week, Pia has modelled for India's only swimsuit calendar for two consecutive years. Now she is going to host a new reality show on Channel [V], called Pepsi [V] TV Champions, that gives the common man his 60 seconds of fame on national television.

So, when I met her I began by asking her what her 60 seconds of fame was.

"If you ask me my 60 seconds, it would be the launch of my first Kingfisher Calendar in 2004. It was revealed in 60 seconds all right," she laughs.

In a society that still has its conservative ethos, young Pia is not even the least bit perturbed over posing for a swimsuit calendar. "It was absolutely fine. In fact it was fantastic. I learnt a lot from that. People in India are opening up to a swimsuit calendar. I haven't seen anybody retaliating as yet. Also Vijay Mallya's calendar is very prestigious for a model. It was an amazing experience to be a part of it for two years."

Endowed with a figure that would run an hourglass pretty close, Pia had no problems donning a barely-there bikini. And it helps to have a body sculpted by gruelling workouts.

But shooting for a calendar such as this is not easy. It takes hours to get the perfect light and one shoot will often stretch for days together till the photographer gets it right. "It requires a lot of patience to get the right kind of light. This year I was on a tree for two-and-a-half hours and we still didn't get a good shot. But you learn a lot out of it, you come out with a lot of positives," Pia says.

She was even stung by sea urchins during one such expedition. "We were in the Fiji Islands. One of the other models was having a shoot. Then the boatman said we had to leave because the tide was receding. We had to wade through the water to get to the boat. That's when I stepped and fell on everything from sea urchins to corals. The corals were really sharp. So, by the time I got to the boat, I had fallen at least 50 times, got stung at least 40 times and was bleeding from at least 10 places. But it was great," she laughs.

A foodie to the core, Pia loves to eat ice-cream and sip coffee while chilling at her favourite hangouts — coffee shops. She prefers to indulge in calorific sins and then work out in the gym.

"I love food so I can't stop there, so I work out in the gym. I spend at least three hours in the gym every day. That helps me keep my figure going for any event. But for the Kingfisher calendar I had to go on a really strict diet as I had a goal to achieve," she says. "But now I am VJ at Channel V, hosting a new show, so I intend to give my 100 per cent there. I have achieved my goals in modelling. Now I have a new goal in VJing and till I achieve that I will not budge," she adds

Candice Pinto - Again

Candice Pinto in amazing shape as always , i mean she isnt reed thin like most models (specially from the west), she has a well mantained body , must be workin out 4 times a week atleast.

Now, Rocky S and his model friend Candice Pinto are popularising bar dancing at the south Mumbai nightclub all over again. At a party hosted by Candice late last week, the designer carried the model and hoisted her up onto the bar, where she sportingly displayed some fairly impressive moves. We don’t know if there was a talent hunter looking for ‘item girls’ in the house, but had one been present, Candice would have passed the audition with flying colours.

Joey Matthews - Desi Supermodel

Found this intresting on Joey Matthews`s pout & look ..lol

On runways internationally, it seems that the more you stare accusingly at the world as if it conspired to murder your mother, the more glamorous you are. Look at Riya Sen on the latest cover of Elle — you’d think she was a street child deprived of her only roti; look at Joey Matthews or Nina Manuel on the ramp and you get the same feeling; or — and this is if you can bear it — look at Urmila Matondkar in Pyar Tune Kya Kiya. When Van Houff said that ‘the lip pout has been observed as a mood sign on old world monkeys and apes’, is there any possibility that he could, by some strange back-to-the-future machines at his disposal, have been looking at movie clips of our mulgi Matondkar?

Sheetal Mallar - GORGEOUS!!!!!!!

SUPERHOTTIE!!!!!!!! Sheetal Mallar !!!!!!!!!!

Height: 175 cms

Weight: 57 kgs

Bust: 34 inches

Waist: 25 inches

Hips: 36 inches

Hair: Reddish-brown

Eyes: Black

Zodiac: Taurus

Update: Sheetal Mallar loves multi-tasking -- she's a hugely successful model, a businesswoman (she and her Italian husband Mose Navarra run a trading company) and a painter. And if that's not enough, she is now seriously considering joining the model bandwagon in Bollywood. All she's waiting for is a 'good banner, a good director and good money'. Some things, though, remain the same… Sheetal's favourite labels are still Armani and Prada.
