Stint at fashion week: My first break was at an Italian festival that I walked for. And this is my second time at fashion week. It was an eye-opener and a great platform for me.
Fave designers: I love Rohit Bal, Tarun Tahiliani and Wendell Rodricks. Amongst models, my all-time favourite is Mehr Jessia.
Future leap: I was modelling in college, so it was a different experience. Now that I’ve taken it full time, I want to give it my best

Exotic Looking Monikangana Datta
It’s easy to understand why Monikangana Dutta is the current darling of the fashion world — glowingly dusky, Amazonianly leggy, with a ball-busting attitude to match.
“It’s sad to see that half the Indian designers don’t know what they’re doing — some make couture clothes for prêt shows and prêt clothes for couture shows,” states 23-year-old Moni, whose career kick-started with the Paris Fashion Week in 2004. “C’mon, how can you do that? That’s quite crazy,” she laughs.
With sex and drugs being the hottest flavour of the news, ask her how debauched the fashion world is, and she reveals, “This industry is all about sex and drugs! Though I don’t know why people make such a big deal about sex. It’s a basic — you need it. As for drugs, if you want to do it, don’t do it publicly.”
What about the prevalence of ‘coke daddies’ — sleazy older men who ply young models with drugs in return for sexual favours? “Of course coke daddies exist! I’ve seen people doing it. Everyone is into something or the other in the fashion world.”
Assam born, now Mumbai based, Moni gets candid on the other ‘dark side’ of the modelling trade. “People have dropped me from TV commercials at the last minute because they got more fair-skinned girls. Over here, people are still not ready to accept that dusky skin can launch a brand,” she exclaims.
That’s not to say that internationally, Moni has not come across this discrimination. “In France, when I went to meet Yohji Yamamoto, I was shocked. He said, ‘I really like you, I like your face, but I can’t use you for my show’. And I was like, why? He said because he had never used an Indian girl before — that he wasn’t comfortable with it. I was so shattered on hearing that.”
With Bollywood not on her agenda (she in fact walked out of an art film that had Kamal Sidhu and Sandhya Mridul in it because of “certain kissing/nudity scenes”), what’s Moni’s big dream ahead? “I think the YSL campaign is every model’s dream,” she winds up.

Model Joey Matthews
Delhi based model joey matthews has a few things to say about delhi
"I want to stay in Delhi. It has given me everything – fame and success. It is a rapidly progressing city, which is not burdened by its progress. I love it for its open spaces, parks and greenery. Professionally speaking, it is on the same platform as Mumbai, but scores over the latter in infrastructure."

Sheetal Malhar / Sheetal Mallar
She stands tall at 5'10". Though weighing in at just 57 kgs, supermodel Sheetal Mallar is quite a heavyweight in the fashion world.
Her journey into the world of glamour took off when she was crowned 'Face of the Year' in 1994 by Femina.
She was also among the 12 finalists in the Elite supermodel contest held in the same year.
he face of Maybelline cosmetics, Sheetal was not always the picture-perfect clotheshorse that she is now. Ace photographer Gautam Rajadhyaksha got her her an assignment with Danabhai Jewellers. This was followed by campaigns like LG Electronics, McDowells and Gold Flake and there was no looking back for this leggy beauty.
rediff.com got this busy model and got her to throw light on the good, bad and the ugly in her life.
Good: Does not smoke. Drinks only socially and tries to be in good shape. Does not enjoy wearing make up. Does not make a fuss on the ramp about wearing clothes she does not like. Says it would be rude to say no to the designer.
Bad: Tries to work out regularly, but normally not possible because of her hectic lifestyle.
Ugly: Uncomfortable wearing transparent garments and showing butt!
Psst... psst: Does not use Indian beauty products.

Tupur Chatterjee & Tapur Chatterjee
Tapur Chatterjee on January being a depressive month , “I don’t think January is a depressive month at all. One does get carried away with the festive spirit of December, so January for me is a month of rejuvenation. It’s the time to get back to routine, healthy habits and detox my system.” She suggests a healthy eating regime, a trip to the spa and plenty of sleep.
Tupur Chatterjee on partying to increase social network: “Unfortunately or fortunately, I have never done any such thing. That said, it’s a personal matter; some people have the skills to socialise and work towards building ‘formal’ relationships and some don’t. As long as one’s not pleading for work, it’s just fine!”
