Diandra Soares speaks on unfair treatment based on skin color
'We used to go for 100 auditions a day. Eventually they know what they want, always a fair-skinned person. Take the case of any of these girls from abroad, half foreigner or full, the minute they come in they are like gold, and everyone says, ''God! Let's run after them''. It's out in the open. It's sad that we still have a firang festish," said Diandra Soares, model.

The Ever Sexy Diandra Soares
DIANDRA SOARES is my favourite model. The 25-year-old is arguably India’s highest paid runway walker and a muse to many designers—the likes of Tarun Tahiliani and Aki Narula. She also beat Madonna and Britney Spears by tongue-lashing a fellow model years before the musical icons did. She was big and big-boned when she started her career (at 18, I think), but the skinny new Di is much softer and far lovelier. Continue Reading

Diandra Soares & Older Men
“Older men come with physical, emotional and mental maturity. In fact, I’ve never been able see a guy my age,” says model Diandra Soares, who’s been dating 11 years older DJ Whosane. “But however big the age difference, older men are still babies. So no, it’s not a father figure thing, in fact I feel like the mother!”
Eventually, love knows no sex, racial barriers or age limits. As a noble mind once said, “Better be an old man’s darling than a young man’s slave.”

Superhottie Supermodel Diandra Soares
>

Height: 5 feet 10 inches
Weight: 50 kilos
Measurements: 35-25-35
Her diet: I eat everything. I don't try to avoid any particular kind of food. If I feel I have put on weight, I don't have rice in the night. But that is about it.
She has a weakness: For deep-fried food and sweets. I have a sweet tooth. I love everything from ice creams to mousses to fruit custards to Indian sweets.
Breakfast: Is the most important meal of the day. Even if I wake up at 1 pm, I have breakfast. I usually have eggs or cornflakes with a lot of fruits and fruit juices.
Lunch: Is usually very light. Some rice or a chappati with vegetables and something non-vegetarian.
She eats: 6-7 meals through the day.
Her fitness regimen: With my kind of schedule, I don't get to go to the gym often. Off-season, I go thrice a week for an hour everyday. I don't have any fixed schedule when I am exercising. I just do whatever I feel my body needs at that point in time.
Yoga: Is something I used to do regularly. I feel there are many parts of our body that don't get worked out in the gym. Yoga helps strengthen those parts of the body.
Her skincare routine: Is a clean-up once in three months. I don't have a skincare routine as such. I use creams as when I think my skin needs repair. I use a lot of natural products on my skin. I also drink a lot of water through the day.
Her secret recipe for glowing skin: Mix milk and salt and rub it on your skin. It hydrates the skin and gives it a glow. Or rub raw papaya to get soft, smooth, blemish free skin.
When not modelling or partying: I read. I like the John Grisham kind of stuff. I also read on books about the afterlife. I sketch. I love doing sketches of shoes, garments and anything related to fashion. I shop. I like to spend time with my friends.
What you didn't know about her: I love to design shoes. My first collection of shoes was shown at the Lakme India Fashion Week this year at Tarun Tahiliani's show.
The one thing she loves about herself: I can smile even if I am messed up in my head. I am very chirpy and chatty and that is not something you will find in a lot of models in the industry.
What she still wants to achieve: I want to work in movies. Not stupid, run-of-the-mill Bollywood ones but some intelligent movies. I would like to model abroad which I am doing a little bit of now. I am going to the Miami Fashion Week. I want to be a stylist. I want to be a shoe designer. You name it in the creative front and I want to try it and tap into it.

Diandra Soares Thinks Most Indian's Are Mamma's Boys
Diandra Soares, model: Arbatova might be living with an Indian man but has she had to deal with his mother? Most Indian men are mamma's boys and I don't think she has had to deal with that aspect of the relationship. I think most Indian men like their women to look hot when they're dating but once married, they want them to look all traditional and coy.

Diandra Soares On Travel
There is no such thing as a typical weekend in my job. Sometimes I am working; and on some weekends, I am absolutely free. If I am free, I tend to get out of the city and I usually go to Lonavala or Pune with friends. Otherwise I catch up on my sleep. I am not so much of a party person and I feel it is far more important to catch up on my sleep, especially during peak season ? September to January ? when you are working flat out through the week and you just get that one day off. Otherwise, I make plans with my friends, either go to a party or meet up at someone?s house for dinner. So it really depends, there is no fixed plan as such for the weekend.
Yes, food is on the agenda ? it is always on the agenda. And being Catholics, special food is made on Sundays. I used to cook when I lived on my own but now I get pampered by my mum who is a great cook. We usually have biryani or barbecued chicken though sometimes it is something even more fancy.
I avoid going for movies on a weekend as that?s when the theatres are most crowded. I don?t go to the parlour either on Saturdays and Sundays for the very same reason. I prefer hiding out at home or even driving out of town. As for reading and listening to music, that happens quite a bit during the week anyway.
I do hate working on Sundays though but when you?re working on the weekend, you?re working on the weekend ? you don?t get a free day.

Diandra Soares
At the early age of 13, Diandra Soares had made up her mind about being a model. The inspiration came in the form of India's Madhu Sapre who stood fifth at the Miss Universe pageant. Her honest and straightforward answers in the pageant impressed Diandra and she decided that she wanted to be up there. Diandra's close resemblance to Madhu, in terms of her looks and candour, was another encouraging factor for her to make it in the glamour world.
During her childhood years, Diandra was abnormally tall for her age and her family always joked that she should become a model. Little did they know that this dark, tall and rather awkward-looking girl would be a rage in Indian modelling industry. However, Diandra has only her parents to thank for the success that she has seen. They were a 'no-problem' couple and in fact, helped her in whatever she wanted to do, let alone oppose it.
Her entry into the modelling world was marked by her triumph as Miss Bombay '95. Thereafter, she got her first ad film in Dinesh Suitings. James Ferreira who did her outfits was impressed by this dusky beauty and recommended her to choreographers Sangeeta Chopra and Lubna Adams. Soon, Diandra made her way to the most prestigious ramp shows in town.
By 18, she was a well-known model. Diandra contested in the Femina Miss India. Though she failed to bag the crown, she won the coveted title of Miss Beautiful Skin. She explains: "Femina was keen on promoting newer faces. Since I was already established, I perhaps couldn't make it to the top." Her answer in the final round was honest and curt. She was probably written off for her candid quotes just as it happened to her idol, Madhu Sapre.
Her modelling work includes commercials for products like Tips and Toes, VIP underwear, Tillsbury whiskey and music videos for Ila Arun (Kichdi), Jalwa, Jadoo and Bali Bramhabhatt's remix album.
When she started, Diandra was well known for her ringleted locks. But now, she is recognised more as a model who had shaved off completely. This bold, bald move by Diandra a couple of years ago put her in the spotlight.
Was this just a publicity stunt? "No way, " she retorts to say, "It's something that I always wanted to try out. I didn't do so for grabbing media attention or more assignments." She merely wanted to know what it feels like to be bald and recommends that one should have the experience of baldness at least once in a lifetime. She exclaims: "The sensation is amazing."
Her friends laughed off when she talked about going bald. But she stuck to her word. She took this step while holidaying in Goa. Reliving the glorious moments of her bald days, she says, "That feeling of the breeze flying past your clean head, water flowing down without being blocked by hair and sand trickling down your head smoothly is magical."
Though the stint won her fame, she did not gain much out of it. "In fact, I lost out on several Delhi ramp shows," she says," The audience there would not accept a bald model." After turning bald, Diandra did some unconventional ramp assignments. She stayed that way for a year and gave up on her bald look last November.
Diandra has some big plans for the future, including modelling opportunities abroad, London to be precise. Why London? "Because in London, different and unconventional faces are more in demand than anywhere else," she explains.
Diandra's motto is to retain her identity and make her presence her felt wherever she goes. She wants to stand out in the crowd and to acquire a new look every season. According to her, that's what a model is all about. Being different, and versatile! Someone who can look good in any outfit. Being a trendsetter and someone who can look good in any outfit. This is Diana Soares for you.

Indian Models Diandra Soares & Tupur Chatterjee
Diandra Soares was Savvy Cover girl in 1996 and won the “Miss Beautiful Skin” title at the “Femina Miss India” competition in 1998. She can boast of music videos such as “Jalwa”, “Sholey 2000”, and “Khichdi”. She participated in several charity shows last year for Kargil heroes.
What would Tapur Chatterjee & Tupur Chatterjee name their band if they decide in a music career ?
